How to calculate the profit of an Uber or Bolt ride

For an Uber or Bolt ride, a realistic calculation starts with the price but also includes the drive to the customer, the total duration and kilometre costs.

35

Example: a 35 RON offer with 5 minutes to the customer and a 20-minute ride has 25 total minutes. The result is 84 RON/hour.

01

1. Add the time

Total time = minutes to the customer + ride minutes. Do not analyse only the passenger portion.

02

2. Add the kilometres

Total km = km to the customer + ride km. These kilometres affect the vehicle cost.

03

3. Calculate hourly earnings

RON/hour = price × 60 ÷ total minutes. This indicator helps compare offers with different durations.

04

4. Estimate profit

Estimated profit = price − (total km × cost/km). Include a realistic cost for your vehicle.

Profitability of Uber and Bolt rides

The same formulas can be used for Uber and Bolt offers. The real difference comes from the price, pickup time, ride duration, total kilometres and vehicle costs.

What may change the result

  • traffic and waiting time;
  • road, airport or parking fees;
  • platform bonuses and conditions;
  • fuel or energy, maintenance and depreciation;
  • the drive to the next area with demand.
